Dubbo is a city in the Orana Region of New South Wales, Australia. It is also the major centre for the wider Dubbo Region. Dubbo is located approximately 400km northwest of Sydney and is situated at the intersection of major highways and railway lines. Dubbo has a rich history that dates back to the early 1800s and has played a significant role in the development of the region.
Pre-colonisation
The Dubbo region was initially occupied by the Wiradjuri people, who have lived in the area for thousands of years. The Wiradjuri people had a rich culture and way of life, including their traditions, language, and beliefs. The region was home to hundreds of Indigenous people who managed the land and lived in permanent and semi-permanent homes.
Colonisation
Following the British colonisation in the 1800s, the region of Dubbo started to develop. The town of Dubbo was first established in the 1830s when a crossing was made over the Macquarie River. The town became a strategic point for trade and farming in the region and serves as a location for transportation of goods.
Development of Dubbo
